Searching the Willacy County Court Docket
Need a Willacy County court docket search? The door most people use is the Local Government Solutions Online Records Search, known as LGS. Both clerk offices send the public there. Which clerk holds the file depends on the case. The District Clerk keeps felony, family, and district civil matters for the 197th District Court. The County Clerk keeps misdemeanor, county civil, probate, and mental-health files for Willacy County Court. Justice and municipal courts run their own lower-court dockets.
Have the party's full name ready. So should you have a rough filing year and any cause number printed on a notice. The county publishes no standard cause-number format, so type the number exactly as it appears. Then work through these steps:
- Read the citation, summons, or notice to identify the court.
- Open LGS and choose the correct Willacy County office and record type.
- Search by party name, then retry with the complete cause number.
- Review index details and the newest docket entries.
- Call the proper clerk for a document, certified copy, or unclear setting.
A blank result does not close the question. A justice court or city court may hold the case instead. So may the past: older filings can predate the online coverage. A failed docket search is a reason to check the other clerks. It is not proof that no case exists.
Willacy County LGS Portal Access
The LGS login screen lists Login, Guest Login, New Account, and Forgot Password. Guest access covers index information only. A County Clerk notice from April 2024 explains the rules for record images. Images follow account and purchase rules. After five images, you need a subscription. LGS also charges a $0.30 transaction fee per purchase. That fee is separate from the clerk's copy or certification fee.
| Portal control | Purpose | Limit |
|---|---|---|
| Guest Login | Open public index information | No promise of full documents |
| More Information | Review added case detail | Some detail remains nonpublic |
| Images | Locate available record images | Purchase rules may apply |
| View Purchases | Review bought images | Not a certified clerk copy |
The District Clerk page says filings can be viewed online, yet no documents open there. Call the office for copies.
The official LGS source is the county-linked public entry point to the Willacy County records portal.

Use the portal to locate index data; the clerk's office remains the source for the actual file.
Inside a Willacy County Court Docket
Think of a docket as the court's chronology rather than the whole case file. It tracks when a case began. It also notes who appears in it. The docket lists what was filed, each setting entered, and how the matter ended. On LGS, index information, added information, and images sit in separate layers. That layering makes a result handy for finding a case. But it is no substitute for a certified record.
| Cause or Case Number | The court identifier; keep its exact printed format. |
|---|---|
| Style and Parties | The short title and named parties. |
| Docket Entries | Dated filings, notices, motions, orders, and actions. |
| Hearing Settings | Dates and types such as arraignment, motion hearing, or trial. |
| Court and Judge | The assigned tribunal and judicial officer. |
| Disposition | The recorded judgment, plea, dismissal, sentence, or final act. |
A docket entry saying a motion or order was filed proves only that the event was recorded. The full text stays out of view. When the document itself matters, ask the clerk who keeps the file for a plain or certified copy.
Two Willacy County Docket Keepers
One fact routes most Willacy County lookups: the clerk duties are split. Isabel Adame is the District Clerk. She holds the 197th District Court records for felony, family, and district civil cases. Susana R. Garza is the County Clerk. Her office holds the County Court records for misdemeanor, county civil, probate, and mental-health matters. For a lower-court issue, neither office stands in for the JP or municipal clerk.
| Custodian | Docket scope | Copy contact |
|---|---|---|
| District Clerk | Felony, family, district civil | (956) 689-2532 |
| County Clerk | Misdemeanor, county civil, probate, mental health | (956) 689-2710 |
| JP or municipal clerk | Lower civil, Class C, ordinance, traffic | Venue on the citation |
That split is why a name search can come up empty under one office. Switch offices or call the court named on the papers before deciding the docket is missing.
Courts That Keep Dockets in Willacy County
The case type decides the court level. The 197th District Court is the general-jurisdiction district court, while Willacy County Court keeps its own county-level docket. The county has five justice precincts. The current Precinct 2 and 3 personnel are not listed in the directory, and the municipal directory names Raymondville and Lyford but not San Perlita.
| Court | Docket covers | Search route |
|---|---|---|
| 197th District Court | Felony, major civil, family | District Clerk and LGS index |
| Willacy County Court | Misdemeanor, civil, probate, mental health | County Clerk and LGS |
| Justice Courts | Small civil, eviction, lower criminal, traffic | County Justice page |
| Municipal Courts | Ordinance, Class C, city traffic | Raymondville or Lyford court |
Appeals from Willacy state trial courts generally land at the Thirteenth Court of Appeals. The appellate court opens its own cause number. Still, a notice of appeal or a mandate can show up in the trial court's docket below.
When Willacy County Filings Stay Offline
The District Clerk's notice is blunt. A public docket can display a filing event while keeping the filing itself offline. LGS likewise warns that some details stay out of public view. So a hidden document does not mean the clerk lost it. Nor does it mean the whole case is sealed.
- Docket entry
- A dated note that an event occurred.
- Plain copy
- A reproduction without formal certification.
- Certified copy
- A copy authenticated by the clerk.
- Sealed record
- Material withheld by law or court order.
Write down the cause number, the filing date, and the document label before you call. Those details let the clerk pull the item fast and quote the charge. Skip emailing protected identifiers or payment data unless the office authorizes it.
How to Find Court Dates and Settings
Willacy County posts no standalone public daily calendar. Start instead with the newest citation, hearing notice, or docket entry. Watch for a notice of setting, reset, continuance, docket call, motion hearing, plea, or trial. Old dates linger in the chronology. Confirm even the latest visible entry.
The 197th District Court coordinators answer at (956) 689-6250. Willacy County Court uses (956) 689-2710. Justice and municipal contacts turn on the venue. Commissioners Court agendas are county meeting records, not trial calendars for civil or criminal cases. The Willacy County court dates page lays out the full lookup path.
Confirm before appearing: Ask for the current date, time, setting type, courtroom, and whether personal attendance is required.
Willacy County Docket Technology Timeline
County notices mark two milestones. Willacy moved all criminal filing to electronic filing in December 2016 and directed filers to eFileTexas. On April 4, 2024, the County Clerk's LGS migration set up the current public route to index data and images.
The two systems do different jobs. eFileTexas takes filings in. LGS then displays eligible County Clerk index data and images. re:SearchTX is the statewide case-search product the Texas Judicial Branch names, though public access can be blocked; if it will not open, fall back on LGS and the clerks.
LGS documents County Clerk criminal, civil, and probate indexes from 1990 forward. Land indexes begin August 3, 1998. Anything older may call for a search at the office itself.
Public Access to Court Dockets
Texas treats court records differently from ordinary government files. Case filings stay with the clerk of the court that heard the matter. Some administrative judicial records instead fall under Rule 12. Courts are not subject to the Texas Public Information Act the way executive agencies are. When you send a records request, make it specific. Name the court, the cause number, the parties, a date range, and whether you want a copy and in what form.
Key Texas rules:
Government Code §552.0035 places judiciary access under Supreme Court rules and other law.
Rule of Judicial Administration 12 governs covered judicial records and exceptions.
Government Code Chapter 51 supplies district clerk copy and certification fee rules.
Local Government Code Chapter 118 addresses county and justice clerk copy charges.
Seeing a docket entry does not mean every filing behind it is public. Sealed cases, child and victim information, personal identifiers, expunctions, and nondisclosure orders can all limit access. Ask the clerk whether a redacted public version exists.
Willacy County Copy Costs
Fee statutes set the frame, but the office confirms what you actually owe. Under Government Code §51.318, the District Clerk charges a $5 search fee. It applies when no docket number is supplied. Paper copies, and paper converted to electronic, run $1 per page. That rate covers District Clerk records. Straight electronic copies cost $1 through ten pages, then $0.10 for each page after that. Certification may add more.
| Request | Researched framework |
|---|---|
| District search without number | $5 |
| District paper copy | $1 per page |
| District electronic copy | $1 through 10 pages; then $0.10 per page |
| LGS purchase | $0.30 transaction fee; subscription after five images |
| County or justice copy | Chapter 118; confirm the schedule |
Postage, certification, and local add-ons can move the final total. Treat the filing-fee chart as guidance, not a quote for a public copy request.
Docket Records at the Clerk's Office
Both clerk offices serve the public at 576 W Main Avenue in Raymondville. Call ahead to confirm counter hours, accepted payment, identification needs, and whether the record is ready. The offices offer no public terminal or drop box.
The official Willacy County homepage provides courthouse and court links.

The county page is also a current route for notices and justice court contacts.
Willacy County State and Federal Routes
A state appeal generates its own paper trail. You may see entries for the clerk's record. The reporter's record, the appellate cause number, and the mandate can appear too. The Thirteenth Court of Appeals hears appeals from Willacy County. Most civil matters end at the Texas Supreme Court. Criminal cases reach their top rung at the Court of Criminal Appeals. Federal court is a separate system. Willacy County sits in the Brownsville Division. That division belongs to the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Texas. Public access there runs through PACER, not LGS. A state name search will not catch every federal case. And a PACER hit does not become a county clerk record. A party's home in Willacy County does not convert it into one.
Willacy County Court Dockets by City
The Texas Demographic Center's 2020 Census counts list three incorporated cities. Raymondville and Lyford each have municipal court entries. San Perlita has none at present. Population never decides where a case belongs. The citation, the summons, and the named court control that.
Raymondville Docket Search
10,236 residents. Municipal and county channels coexist in the county seat.
Lyford Docket Search
2,249 residents. The city has a court page and separate payment route.
San Perlita Docket Search
538 residents. Verify the issuing venue because no current municipal listing was found.
Sebastian, Port Mansfield, and Lasara hold no incorporated city status here, so no municipal court docket is listed for them. A county case from those areas still sits with the county-level courts.
Map and Directions to the Willacy County Courthouse
197th District Court felony, family, and district civil records are kept by District Clerk Isabel Adame in Room 102 of the Willacy County Courthouse, 576 W Main Ave, in Raymondville. The County Clerk's Room 153 counter, in the same building, handles Willacy County Court misdemeanor, civil, probate, and mental-health matters instead. The District Clerk's own notice warns that filed documents are not viewable online, so a courthouse visit or phone call is often the only way to see the actual paper.
